X-rays from Radio-Galaxies: BeppoSAX Observations

چکیده

We briefly review BeppoSAX observations of X-ray bright radio-galaxies. Their Xray spectra are quite varied, and perhaps surprisingly, any similarity between radioloud AGN and Seyfert galaxies is the exception rather than the rule. When detected, reprocessing features (iron line and reflection) are generally weak, suggesting two possible scenarios: either: (1) non-thermal (jet?) radiation dilutes the X-ray emission from the disk in radio-loud objects, or (2) the solid angle subtended by the Xray reprocessing material is smaller in radio-loud than in radio-quiet AGN due to different characteristics of the accretion disk itself.

BeppoSAX OBSERVATIONS OF SYNCHROTRON X–RAY EMISSION FROM RADIO QUASARS

We present new BeppoSAX LECS, MECS, and PDS observations of four flat–spectrum radio quasars (FSRQ) having effective spectral indices αro and αox typical of high-energy peaked BL Lacs. Our sources have X–ray–to–radio flux ratios on average ∼ 70 times larger than “classical” FSRQ and lie at the extreme end of the FSRQ X–ray–to–radio flux ratio distribution. The collected data cover the energy ra...

X-ray observations of low-power FR I radio galaxies

According to unified schemes for Active Galactic Nuclei, low-power, Fanaroff-Riley type I (FR I), radio galaxies are thought to be BL Lacs with their jets pointing at relatively large angles with respect to the line of sight. X-ray observations of FR I sources can test this scenario and constrain the presence of obscuring material around the nucleus. In this paper we discuss the X-ray propertie...

Multiple Bepposax Observations of Ic 4329a to Probe the Origin of the Compton Re- Flection Component in Seyfert 1 Galaxies

IC 4329A is the brightest known Seyfert galaxy in hard (∼ 2-30 keV) X-rays and is likely to be representative of Seyfert 1 galaxies as a class. A recent 100 ks BeppoSAX observation (Perola et al. 1999) clearly confirmed the presence of a warm absorber, a reflection component (R ∼ 0.6), and a high-energy cut-off in the power law at Ec ∼ 270 keV. Its richness in spectral features, combined with i...

BeppoSAX Observations of 2-Jy Lobe-dominated Broad-Line Sources. I. The Discovery of a Hard X-ray Component

We present new BeppoSAX LECS, MECS and PDS observations of five lobedominated, broad-line active galactic nuclei selected from the 2-Jy sample of southern radio sources. These include three radio quasars and two broad-line radio galaxies. ROSAT PSPC data, available for all the objects, are also used to better constrain the spectral shape in the soft X-ray band. The collected data cover the ener...

Bepposax Observations of Bright Radio Galax- Ies

BeppoSAX observations of Broad Line Radio Galaxies (BLRGs) have shown that they have a considerable variety of spectral properties and important differences with respect to their radio-quiet counter-part Seyfert 1s. In radio galaxies the soft photons are often absorbed by cold material. In contrast, in Seyfert 1s the soft photons are generally absorbed by warm gas. The iron lines, always detect...
